Gymnastics-Artistic
Know your facts:
- Artistic gymnastics has been a sport at Special Olympics World Games since 1972
- Unified Sports? No
- Estimated number of athletes participating: 111
On the high bar or parallel bars, the balance beam or the pommel horse, gymnasts show off their skills in about a minute and a half on a piece of equipment of their choice.
Each apparatus has its own requirements. Some require more physical strength, while others require coordination, speed, or endurance. The judges look at how complex the routine is and how aesthetically, balanced and stable the gymnasts perform it.
We have eight disciplines:
Women's Events
- Vaulting

By the way:
The term "gymnastics" is derived from "gymnos", which means naked. In the first gymnastics competition in ancient Greece, the athletes competed naked.
