Our Spectator Guide provides guidance for visitors of the Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023. It contains all the information you need to prepare for your visit to #Berlin2023.
Important note: More information will be added to this page gradually. It is worth checking back again and again.
General information
Accessibility
You can find an overview of the times for accessible audio streaming, sign language interpretation and other services on our page on accessible services.
The accessible audio stream and sign language interpretation are only available in German and German sign language.
Sustainability
How can you help us make sure our games are as green as possible?
- Most venues are equipped with water dispensers to reduce bottle waste. The locations are marked on the respective map. Water bottles (max. 500 ml) can be refilled free of charge.

Take a photo of you and your vehicle safely parked in the designated parking zones, use the QR code that is visible at all Info Points, and share the photo with us.

- We emphasise a vegetarian and vegan menu for our athletes as well as our guests and encourage you to try the meat-free options at the food stands.
- Let's make the Special Olympic Games sustainable by reducing waste generation and recycling the discards. Please return to the point of sale or recycle used plastic bottles, and put paper/cardboard in the proper bin.
Please note that in Germany, waste is separated into different colored bins: yellow, blue, black, and brown!
By doing so, you'll help us preserve the city's natural resources and keep our Venues and streets clean. We genuinely appreciate your commitment to sustainability!
Tickets
Tickets are required if you are visiting competitions at Messe, the Olympiapark cluster, or the Schwimm- und Sprunghalle im Europasportpark (SSE). You can purchase tickets on our website.

The app helps to find your way around the city when you need assistance. Several functions are available in the app for this purpose. One function, among others, is video chat.
App VBB Easy
The app VBB Easy is aimed at cognitively impaired people to help them navigate through Berlin and the region. It shows you possible routes, you can save different locations and you receive tips during your journey. You can also request help via the app.

How to come by Public Transport?
S-Bahn
- You can take the S3, and S9 to station S Olympiastadion. Walking from the station to the venue will take approximately 5 minutes.
If arriving by S-Bahn, all ticket holders will be directed to exit to the East and use the main East Gate. Only exceptions provided to exit via the West exit will be those that are residents or that require use of the station lift.
U-Bahn (Subway)
You can take the U2 to come to U Olympiastadion. Walking from the station to the venue will take approximately 10 minutes.
The S+U-Bahn Stations are fully wheelchair accessible.
Active travel – by bicycle, e-bike & e-scooter
- The Olympiastadion is easy to reach by bike. Bicycle racks are located at Coubertinplatz, at the east entrance, and at the S-Bahn station Olympiastadion.
- Another option is to arrive by Bolt e-scooter or e-bike and discover Berlin at your own pace. The mobility provider Bolt supports the Special Olympics World Games 2023 in Berlin. How to come by Taxi, Bolt, or Carpooling?
- Our recommended drop-off and pick-up location is the smaller area at Olympischer Platz (coming from Olympische Straße).
How to come by Car?
- The Special Olympics does not provide parking for spectators (please see the accessible parking section for those with permits). Please note we expect the parking to be very limited in the area that night. If you do need to arrive by car, we recommend parking near Messe Berlin and using the U-Bahn (U2) to travel 1 stop to the Stadium.
Accessible Parking
- There are limited accessible parking spots available at Olympiastadion, access must be requested. Accessible parking can be found at the Olympischer Platz (Olympic Place). If you need accessible parking and are a Blue Badge holder, please contact us at visit@berlin2023.org or call +49 (0)30 62933 6084 to request and locate accessible parking.
Keep in mind there will be various road closures and limited parking areas during the event. We strongly recommend not arriving by vehicle.
Services at the Venue
- Entrances and Info Point
Entrance to the Opening Ceremony is via the East and South Gates. All ticket holders should use only East Gate. South Gate is reserved only for Honored Guests and those that require the Accessible entrance.
Both East and South Gate are fully wheelchair accessible.
Info Points for the Opening Ceremony can be found at both entrances. The following services are provided:

- Tickets
Tickets can be purchased at the ticket booths on Olympischer Platz in front of the main entrance (East Gate). Tickets can only be purchased by card. See the map for the exact location that will be available in June.
We recommend you purchase your tickets in advance via our webshop.
Storage
Personal items that cannot be taken into the Olympiastadion and can be left at the storage area at the corner of Gutsmuthsweg and Südtorweg. The storage service costs 2€ per item. You can pay by cash, giro/debit card, credit card, and ApplePay and GooglePay.
The following items cannot be taken into the Olympiastadion:
- Any plastic canisters, plastic bottles, metal containers, or metal bottles of any kind (tetra packs 250ml or under containing water may be brought in)
- Items bigger than A4 paper Size (210 x 290 mm); including bags.
- Helmets
- Food of any kind, unless being brought in for an individual’s medical reasons. Any approved food must be limited to one small portion for an individual's immediate consumption.

First Aid
There are multiple first aid stations located within the Olympiastadion. You will find the exact location on the map that will be available in June.
Food and Drink
There will be catering stands located within the Olympiastadion and will be marked on the map that will be available in June.
Merchandise
There are three locations for our Fan Shops at the Opening Ceremony: one at the South Gate, and two at the East Gate.
The Fan Shops are open on June 17 from 18:00-23:00.
Toilets
The location of the toilets (including accessible toilets) will be found on the map that will be available in June. They are located within the Olympiastadion.
Live-Broadcasting
Live-Broadcasting
There will be live broadcasting of the Opening Ceremony. On our website you can find a total overview of all broadcasting stations.
Accessibility Services at the Venue
Wheelchair Seating
Wheelchair seats can be found around the stadium on the lower level. All seats for wheelchair users can be found in the inner gallery in row 41. The row in front of these seats will be reserved for individuals accompanying.
Each venue has an Info Point where you can loan a wheelchair if required. They can be pre-booked via visit@berlin2023.org. Chairs for companions can be provided as needed at the venue.
Sign Language Interpretation
Sign language interpretation will be available in German Sign Language on the four large screens. It will also be available for certain sports sessions; you can find the schedule here.
Audio Description
Audio description devices (available at the Info Point) will be available in the German language for the Ceremony. It will also be available for certain sports sessions; you can find the schedule here.
It is also possible to reserve a device in advance using the following online registration form.
We recommend that you reserve a seat in Block A1 to ensure that the devices connect to the audio stream without interference.
Speech-to-text-interpreting
We will provide speech-to-text interpreting for the Opening Ceremony. The interpreting will be automatically displayed on all screens and is available in German and English.
This service is for those that are deaf or hard of hearing and/or do not understand sign language. Alongside those who are non-native English or German speakers.
Accessible Toilets & Nappy Changing Facilities
There will be accessible toilets located throughout the stadium. The exact location will be marked on the map that will be available in June.
Quiet and Prayer Room
You can find a Quiet and Prayer Room to assist with sensory overload, meditate or pray in the Upper Level on the Northeast Side of the venue. It will be marked on the map that will be available in June. To gain access to this room, please see the Info Point at the East Gate and our team can escort you.
Assistance Animals
Guide and assistance animals are allowed for the Opening Ceremony as support for people with disabilities if they are required for medical purposes. We recommend purchasing a ticket on the Lower Tier.

How to come by Public Transport?
S-Bahn
- You can take the S1, S2, S25, and S26 to S+U Brandenburger Tor. Walking from the station to the venue will take approximately 5 minutes.
The station S Brandenburger Tor is not wheelchair accessible. The lift is under construction during the event. We advise for barrier-free traveling to use the U-Bahn instead.
U-Bahn (Subway)
- You can take the U5 to come to S+U Brandenburger Tor. Walking from the station to the venue will take approximately 5 minutes.
The station U Brandenburger Tor is fully wheelchair accessible.
Active travel – by bicycle, e-bike & e-scooter
- Brandenburger Tor is easy to reach by bike. Bicycle racks are located at Dorotheenstraße and at Unter den Linden.
Another option is to arrive by Bolt e-scooter or e-bike and discover Berlin at your own pace. The mobility provider Bolt supports the Special Olympics World Games 2023 in Berlin. - Taxi ranks can be found in Scheidemannstrasse (taxi stand at the Reichstag) and in Alte Potsdamer Strasse (taxi stand Marlene Dietrich Platz), which is close to Brandenburger Tor. Please use one of the public parking spaces, for private pick-ups, Bolt, or car sharing.
How to come by Car?
Accessible Parking
- There is no accessible parking at the Brandenburg Gate. We strongly recommend that you avoid using your car and use public transport instead.
Keep in mind possible road closures and limited parking areas during the Games time.
Services at the Venue
- Info Point
There will be six Info Points for the Closing Ceremony. They are located at the entrances and the area in front of Brandenburg Gate. The following services are provided:

Forbidden Items / Storage
The following items cannot be taken into the area of the Brandenburger Tor and must be taken to storage:
- Glass containers and bottles, cans, or other objects made of glass or any other fragile, splintering, or particularly hard material which, by their nature, could cause injury.
- Helmets
- Items bigger than A4 paper size (210 x 290 mm); including bags.
- Food of any kind, unless being brought in for an individual’s medical reasons. Any approved food must be limited to one small portion for an individual's immediate consumption.

First Aid
First aid stations are located across the venue. One station is at Simsonweg, another at Regierungsviertel, and the next one at Straße 17. Juni and the last one at Ebertstraße corner Behrenstraße. You will find the exact location on the map that will be available in June.

There will be catering stands located across the venue. You will find the exact location on the map that will be available in June.
Merchandise
There will be two Fan Shops at the Closing Ceremony. The location will be published soon. They are open on June 25 from 18:00-22:00.
Toilets
The location of the toilets (including accessible toilets) will be found on the map that will be available in June. They are located across the venue at Brandenburger Gate.

Accessibility Services at the Venue
Accessible Viewing Platform
An accessible viewing platform can be found near the Info Point located at the stage area. The exact location will be marked on the venue map for the Closing Ceremony that will be available in June.
Wheelchair Loans
Each venue has an Info Point where you can loan a wheelchair if required. They can be pre-booked via visit@berlin2023.org. Chairs for companions can be provided as needed at the venue.
Sign Language Interpretation
Sign language interpretation will be available in German Sign Language. You can find the schedule here.

Guide and assistance animals are allowed at Brandenburger Tor as support for people with disabilities if they are required for medical purposes.
Additional Venue Information
We also advise there are limited shade options available at the venue. So please bring sufficient sun protection such as a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
The lift at the S-Bahn station Brandenburger Tor is under construction during the games. We advise for barrier-free traveling to use the U-Bahn going to Brandenburger Tor instead.
Please note: Dogs are not allowed inside our venue. Please keep in mind that it is not possible for you to bring your dog with you into the enclosed area of the venue at Brandenburger Tor.

How to come by Car?
- The Special Olympics does not provide parking for spectators (please see the accessible parking section for those with permits). Parking spaces near the venue are very limited and subject to a charge. There are only a few parking spaces nearby. However, we strongly recommend not arriving by car.
Accessible Parking
There are limited accessible parking spots available for Neptunbrunnen. Accessible parking can be found at the venue. If you need accessible parking and are a Blue Badge holder, please contact us at visit@berlin2023.org or call +49 (0)30 62933 6084 to request and locate accessible parking.

- Sign Language Interpretation
Our moderation of the stage program will be interpreted into German sign language.
Accessible Toilets & Nappy Changing Facilities
There will be accessible toilets located next to the first aid station and another one between the stand of Coca-Cola and Toyota.

We advise there are limited shade options available at the venue. Please bring sufficient sun protection such as a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
Please note: Dogs are allowed on a leash in the event area. We kindly ask you not to let your dog off the leash at any time.

How to come by Public Transport?
S-Bahn
- You can take the S3 and S9 to station S Messe Sud. Walking from the station to the Messe Entrance South will take approximately 5 minutes. Please use the Messedamm exit and follow the path through the tunnel under Jafféstraße to the Messe Entrance South.
- You can also take the S41, S42, and S46 to station S Messe Nord/ ICC (Witzleben). The Messe Entrance 21 North is a 15-minute walk from the station.
U-Bahn (Subway)
- You can take the U2 to come to station Theodor-Heuss-Platz. Walking from the station to the Messe Entrance South will take approximately 30 minutes and to the Messe Entrance 21 North will take approximately 15 minutes.
The S+U-Bahn Stations are fully wheelchair accessible.
Active travel – by bicycle, e-bike & e-scooter
- Messe Berlin is easy to reach by bike. Bicycle racks are available free of charge near the entrances. You can find them on the venue map that will be available in June.

- In front of the City Cube Berlin there is an entrance and exit for taxis on the right-hand side. There is a wide range of taxi companies available in Berlin. please use one of the public parking spaces for private pick-ups, Bolt, or car sharing.

How to come by Car?
- The Special Olympics does not provide parking for spectators (please see the accessible parking section for those with permits). If you are arriving by car, the venue is located near several paid public car lots on the north side of the Messe in front of the Funkturm exhibition center. P1, P2, and P4- P6 are open to the public, but will not be reserved for World Games visitors. The walk across the Messedamm takes about 15 minutes.
Accessible Parking
- There are limited accessible parking spots available in the Messe complex. Accessible free parking can be found in the parking zones at Hammarskjöldplatz. Access is via Hammarskjöldplatz. These spaces are limited and not managed by the Special Olympics World Games. A blue badge must be shown. Access is then via. Entrance 21 North.
Keep in mind possible road closures and limited parking areas during the Games time.
Services at the Venue
- Entrance and Info Point
The closest entrance is Messe Entrance 21 North. The entrance is ground level with 1 small ramp after the Info Point.
Messe Entrance South is on ground level, with lifts and escalators to the activities on the level above.
Both spectator entrances to Messe are fully accessible.
There are three Info Points located at Messe: Messe Entrance South, Sommergarten, and Messe Entrance 21 North. The closest Info Point is located at Sommergarten. The following services are provided:

- Award Ceremonies
After successful sports competitions, the beaming winners are honored on the stage in Sommergarten.
- Special Olympics Festival
- Unified Generation Stand
There will be a Fan Shop located at Sommergarten, which will be open from the 18th to the 25th of June. You will find the exact location on the map that will be available in June.

First Aid
First aid stations are located across the area of the Messe. You will find the exact location on the map that will be available in June.
Food and Drink
There will be catering stands located throughout Messe. You will find the exact location on the map that will be available in June.
Toilets
You can find toilets across Messe. The location of the toilets (including accessible toilets) will be found on the map that will be available in June.
Water Fountains
We do not have extra drinking fountains at Messe Berlin. Please use the water taps in the restrooms to fill your water bottle (no larger than 500ml). In Germany, it is safe to drink from the tap.

How to come by Taxi, Carpooling?
- Our recommended drop-off and pick-up location is along Hanns-Braun-Straße outside the Olympiapark (coming from Rominter Allee).
How to come by Car?
The Special Olympics does not provide parking for spectators (please see the accessible parking section for those with permits). If you do arrive by car, there are paid parking spaces near the Olympiastadion, for example at the Rositter Parkplatz. From there, you can reach the Hanns-Braun-Stadion on foot in 15 to 20 minutes.
Accessible Parking
There are limited accessible parking spots available in the Olympiapark complex. Accessible parking can be found at the North and East part of Olympiapark. If you need accessible parking and are a Blue Badge holder, please contact us at visit@berlin2023.org or call +49 (0)30 62933 6084 to request and locate accessible parking.
Keep in mind there will be road closures and limited parking areas during the Games time.

Merchandise
A Fan Shop is in front of the Hanns-Braun-Stadion near Info Point. It is open from the 18th to the 25th of June.

Live-Broadcasting
There will be live broadcasting of the athletics competition on the 18th (Sunday) and from the 20th to the 25th of June.

Additional Venue Information
The seating in the Hanns Braun-Stadion is made of stone. If you wish, you may bring a small cushion to make your seat more comfortable. Please note that the cushion must fit into your bag to comply with our entry regulations.
We advise there are limited shade options available at the venue. Please bring sufficient sun protection such as a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
Shuttle Service for Olympiapark
We will provide a shuttle service between Olympiapark West and Olympiapark North. Please note that the shuttle buses and the pick-up and drop-off points are not fully accessible. Please also note that on June 20 and June 24, the West Gate will be closed at 15:00 (3 pm) due to external events. We recommend using the shuttle service to travel from Olympiapark West to Olympiapark North and vice versa on these days.

If you are arriving by car, the venue is located near several paid public car lots on the north side of the Messe in front of the Funkturm exhibition center. P1, P2, and P4- P6 are open to the public, but will not be reserved for World Games visitors. The walk across the Messedamm takes about 15 minutes.
Accessible Parking
- There are limited accessible parking spots available in the Messe complex. Accessible free parking can be found in the parking zones at Hammarskjöldplatz. Access is via Hammarskjöldplatz. These spaces are limited and not managed by the Special Olympics World Games. A blue badge must be shown. Access is then via. Entrance 21 North.

How to come by Public Transport?
S-Bahn
- You can take the S3 and S9 to S Messe Sud. Walking from the station to the venue will take approximately 10 minutes. Please use the Messedamm exit and follow the path through the tunnel under Jafféstraße to the Messe Entrance South.
- You can also take the S41, S42, and S46 to S Messe Nord/ ICC (Witzleben). The Messe Entrance 21 North is a 15-minute walk from the station.
U-Bahn (Subway)
- You can take the U2 to come to U Theodor-Heuss-Platz. Walking from the station to the Messe Entrance South will take approximately 30 minutes and to the Messe Entrance 21 North will take approximately 15 minutes.

Active travel – by bicycle, e-bike & e-scooter
- Messe Berlin is easy to reach by bike. Bicycle racks are available free of charge near the venues. You can find them on the venue map that will be available in June.

How to come by Taxi, Carpooling?
- In front of the City Cube Berlin there is an entrance and exit for taxis on the right-hand side. There is a wide range of taxi companies available in Berlin. For private pick-ups, Bolt, or car sharing, please use one of the public parking spaces.
How to come by Car?
- The Special Olympics does not provide parking for spectators (please see the accessible parking section for those with permits). If you are arriving by car, the venue is located near several paid public car lots on the north side of the Messe in front of the Funkturm exhibition center. P1, P2, and P4- P6 are open to the public, but will not be reserved for World Games visitors. The walk across the Messedamm takes about 15 minutes.
Accessible Parking
- There are limited accessible parking spots available in the Messe complex. Accessible free parking can be found in the parking zones at Hammarskjöldplatz. Access is via Hammarskjöldplatz. These spaces are limited and not managed by the Special Olympics World Games. A blue badge must be shown. Access is then via. Entrance 21 North.

There are three Info Points located at Messe: Messe Entrance South, Sommergarten, and Messe Entrance 21 North. The closest Info Point for Bocce is located at Messe Entrance South. The following services are provided:

Please also note that on June 20 and June 24, the West Gate will be closed at 15:00 (3 pm) due to external events. We recommend using the shuttle service to travel from Olympiapark West to Olympiapark North and vice versa on these days.

S-Bahn
- You can take the S3 and S9 to S Messe Sud. Walking from the station to the venue will take approximately 10 minutes. Please use the Messedamm exit and follow the path through the tunnel under Jafféstraße to the Messe Entrance South.
- You can also take the S41, S42, and S46 to S Messe Nord/ ICC (Witzleben). The Messe Entrance 21 North is a 15-minute walk from the station.

- You can take U2 to come to U Theodor-Heuss-Platz. Walking from the station to the Messe Entrance South will take approximately 30 minutes and to the Messe Entrance 21 North will take approximately 15 minutes.

- The Special Olympics does not provide parking for spectators (please see the accessible parking section for those with permits). If you are arriving by car, the venue is located near several paid public car lots on the north side of the Messe in front of the Funkturm exhibition center. P1, P2, and P4- P6 are open to the public, but will not be reserved for World Games visitors. The walk across the Messedamm takes about 15 minutes.
Accessible Parking
- There are limited accessible parking spots available in the Messe complex. Accessible free parking can be found in the parking zones at Hammarskjöldplatz. Access is via Hammarskjöldplatz. These spaces are limited and not managed by the Special Olympics World Games. A blue badge must be shown. Access is then via. Entrance 21 North.
Keep in mind possible road closures and limited parking areas during the Games time.

The Special Olympics does not provide parking for spectators (please see the accessible parking section for those with permits). If you do arrive by car, the closest paid parking space near Segel Club Wannsee is Parkplatz am S-Wannsee (next to the train station). From there, you can reach the Segel Club Wannsee on foot in 15 to 20 minutes.
Accessible Parking
There are limited accessible parking spots available at Segel Club Wannsee. If you need accessible parking and are a Blue Badge holder, please contact us at visit@berlin2023.org or call +49 (0)30 62933 6084 to request and locate accessible parking.

We do not have a dedicated wheelchair seating area for Sailing. Please feel free to use any good spot in the venue for you to enjoy Sailing. Additional Venue Information
The Club-Restaurant at Segel Club Wannsee is located on the 1st floor of the venue and therefore not wheelchair accessible. Please note smoking and drinking alcohol are permitted by the restaurant. Opening hours are from Wednesday to Sunday from 12:00 to 23:00.
We would also like to inform you that there are only a limited number of shaded areas at the venue. Please bring adequate sun protection such as a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.

- There are limited accessible parking spots available in the Messe complex. Accessible free parking can be found in the parking zones at Hammarskjöldplatz. Access is via Hammarskjöldplatz. These spaces are limited and not managed by the Special Olympics World Games. A blue badge must be shown. Access is then via. Entrance 21 North.

Additional Venue Information
The main court is the only court that has grandstand seating and dedicated wheelchair positions. All other courts are standing room on the outside of the fencing only. Access to these courts is via grass and/or dirt path.
There are outdoor tables and chairs available in the catering area and sandy picnic areas available in the venue.
The seating in the grandstand is made of stone. If you wish, you may bring a small cushion to make your seat more comfortable. Please note that the cushion must fit into your bag (which must be A3 paper size) to comply with our entry regulations.
We also advise there are limited shade options available at the venue. Please bring sufficient sun protection such as a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
Shuttle Service between Tennis Club and Messe South
We will provide a shuttle service between the Tennis Club and Messe South. Please note that the shuttle buses and the pick-up and drop-off points are not fully accessible. More information is found at the Info Point.
